Most businesses and public facilities will be closed on the federal holiday, barring a few exceptions.

Here's a look at what's opened and closed in Ottawa on Canada Day this Monday, July 1.

Retail

  • Stores in certain areas of the citysuch as the Glebe and ByWard Marketcan open on holidays under the province's Retail Business Holidays Act. This also applies to grocery stores.
  • The Rideau Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tanger Outlets will be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Bayshore Shopping Centre, St. Laurent Shopping Centre and Place d'Orléans will be closed.

Groceries

  • Most grocery stores in the city will be closed, but there are a few exceptions (see above).

Alcohol

  • All LCBOs will be closed.
  • Select Beer Stores around the city will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking and transit

  • All City of Ottawa parking regulations apply.
  • Buses, O-Trains and Para Transpo are free all day.
  • OC Transpo will operate on an enhanced Sunday schedule with increased service all day.
  • Rural Shopper Route 301 will not run.
  • OC Transpo's Rideau Centre customer service centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The OC Transpo Lost and Found (Heartwood House) will be closed.
  • Para Transpo's regular bookings or recurring trips are automatically cancelled. The reservations line will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the trip cancellation line will be open from 6 a.m. to 12from30 a.m.
  • The taxi coupon line will remain open.

Trail closures

  • Partial closure of the Ottawa River Pathway east of the Chief WilliamCommanda Bridge from July 25 to July 4 forfireworks preparation and cleanup.
  • Closure of the Ottawa River Pathway from Onigam Street to the Portage Bridge,and from the Ottawa Riverto Albert Streetfrom June 30 at6 p.m. until July 2 at6 a.m.

Road closures

The following streetswill be closed from 6 a.m. on July 1until 2 a.m. on July 2:

  • Bank Street, between Albert and Wellington streets.
  • Bay Street, betweenAlbert andWellington streets.
  • Booth Street,betweenAlbert StreetandEddy Streetin Gatineau, Que.
  • Bronson Avenue, betweenSlaterandSparks streets.
  • Fleet Street, betweenLettstreet andBooth streets.
  • Kent Street, between Albert andWellington streets.
  • Kichi Zībī Mīkanparkway, betweenParkdale Avenue andWellington Street.
  • Lett Street, betweenFleet andWellington streets.
  • Lloyd Street, betweenFleet andLettstreets.
  • Lyon Street, betweenAlbertandWellington streets.
  • Metcalfe Street, betweenQueen andWellington streets.
  • O'Connor Street,betweenQueen andWellington streets.

  • Barrhaven:Strandherd Drive will be closed between Dealership Drive and Jockvale Road on July 1from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Kanata:The Parkwayin Kanata will beclosed between Reaney Courtand Teron Road from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on July 1. Charlie Rogers Place will alsobe closed between Ron MaslinWayand the Kanata Recreation Complex onJune 30 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on July 1 from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Greely:Meadows Drive will be closed between Parkway Road and Bank Street on July 1from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Osgoode:Osgoode Main Street will beclosed between Nixon Drive and Osgoode Village Park on July 1from 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Recreation

  • Most pools, arenas, and recreation and fitness centres will be closed or operating on a modified schedule. The city suggests checking each facility's page for more details.
  • Outdoor pools, splash pads and wading pools will be open.
  • Arts Court, the Nepean Creative Arts Centre, the Nepean Visual Arts Centre, city-operated museums, Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointeand the Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed.

City services

  • There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection. Pickup will resume on Tuesday and the collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regularly scheduled day. Recycling containers, bulky items and green bins will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • The Trail Waste Facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • All branches of Ottawa Public Library will be closed.
  • The city's 311 contact centre will be open for urgent matters only.
  • All services at Ottawa City Hall, Ben Franklin Place in Nepean, 255 Centrum Blvd. in Orléansand the Provincial Offences Court at 100 Constellation Dr. will be closed.
  • The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Ave. will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed from Saturday to Monday.
  • All four employment and social services offices will be closed.

Health, dental and child-care services

  • The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence St. will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.
  • The city's dental clinics will be closed.
  • The Health811 line will be open.
  • The city's immunization program telephone line will be closed.
  • All city child-care centres and Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed.
