Descending the Sacred Grounds
When you’ve arrived in the past world via the Gate of Time, leave the Temple of Hylia through the front doors to arrive in the main area of the Sacred Grounds. A cutscene will initiate in which Ghirahim can be seen with Zelda at the bottom of the spiral path – Ghirahim will then make force fields to cut off Link on the path so he can’t get any closer. While you’re running down to the bottom, Ghirahim will send hordes of enemies at you.
The first set of monsters…
- The first set of monsters we have to fight are a bunch of Red Bokoblin. Thankfully, you won’t need to make precise sword slashes this time around, so they are quite easy to defeat. Once you’ve taken them all down, continue further down the path. You should grab any Recovery Hearts that the Bokoblin have dropped so that you keep your health up as you fight.
- Ghirahim will then send you five regular Bokoblin that can defend, so use your precise sword slashes to defeat them. Once you’ve defeated them the force field will disappear and you will be able to keep heading down.
The second set of monsters…
- The second batch Ghirahim will send you are more Bokoblins, and this time they’ve come loaded with Bombs to throw at you. There’s no point in attacking the Bokoblin with the Bombs as they’ll just explode and damage you in the process.
- Continue until you hit the next wall and you’re pitted against three Wooden Shield Moblin.
- Defeat all the Bokoblin first, and then turn your attacks to the Moblin. Make sure you pick up any Recovery Hearts afterwards to keep yourself healed.
The third set of monsters…
- When you encounter the third batch that Ghirahim sends you, you will be facing off against a lot more Bokoblin as well as some Bokoblin Archers.
- The Archers will often stand in groups, so you can easily take them down all at once by getting close and performing a spin attack.
- When you’ve reached the end of this path, you will be facing off with some Blue Bokoblin that actually have more health than before and will act a lot more aggressive with their attacks. However, they will still be defeated with a few simple, quick sword attacks.
The fourth set of monsters…
- Once you’ve moved on to the next batch, there will be more Bokoblin to fight, but one of them is a leader and will call more Bokoblin to help in the battle until he’s been taken care of.
- However, merely defeating the Bokoblin with the horn won’t be enough – once you’ve defeated him, he will drop the horn and the other Bokoblin will rush for it, so quickly run over to it and grab it before any other of the Bokoblin get their hands on it.
- When you’ve reached the end of this path, you will have to take on two Stalfos, but they should be pretty simple to take down as we’ve taken down a lot of these before.
The final set of monsters…
- There’s a fifth and final batch to take down – this time, you’ll be fighting regular Bokoblin, blue Bokoblin, two Moblin, and several Bokoblin Archers.
- When you’ve taken care of all these enemies, you can head down to the bottom of the Sealed Grounds, but it won’t be over yet – Ghirahim will send the biggest batch of Bokoblin ever at you; when you’ve managed to defeat them, another cutscene will begin, and you will go into battle with Ghirahim.
Demon Lord Ghirahim – Final Round (Boss)
In the first phase of this battle with Ghirahim, he will fight with his hands and feet, and your goal is to strike him off the platform to the platforms below. Ghirahim will mostly block your attacks when you start, but each attack will still send him back a little bit, so just keep striking at him until you knock him off the edge of the first platform and down to the second. When you’ve landed on the second platform, Ghirahim will still be on his back, so deliver a fatal blow to inflict some real damage.
Once you’ve inflicted some attacks on him, Ghirahim will summon special spells to his hands in the form of purple rays of light. Slashing him still works, but you have to make sure you use the right sword attacks so you don’t hit the purple rays in his hands. Keep slashing away at him until you’ve knocked him down another platform and delivered another fatal blow. Keep repeating this process until the two of you are on the ground.
Once you’re on the ground, Ghirahim will equip his sword and he will block all the attacks you throw at him with it. We won’t be able to directly attack him in this phase of the battle, however if you keep yourself a fair distance away from him, he will start launching red beams at you, which you can easily strike back with your sword if you strike it in the same direction that the beam is positioned in. Much like previous games, strike the beams back at him whenever he returns them until he misses and the beam hits him. Once you’ve managed to hit him with his own beam, quickly run over and strike him with sword jabs to the chest. Keep repeating this process until the next phase starts.
In the final phase of the battle, Ghirahim will equip an even bigger sword. When you try to strike him, he’ll block your attack, but his sword will take damage. You will have to strike his sword in an aggressive manner to keep him from jumping back and using his magic to restore it. Eventually, if you can deliver successful attacks onto his sword without him restoring it, the sword will break and you will have an opening to strike Ghirahim several times before he restores his sword. Repeat this process a few more times and Ghirahim will soon be defeated.
Once you’ve defeated Ghirahim, another cutscene will take place – The Imprisoned will absorb all of Zelda’s life energy, bringing the Demon King, Demise, back to life. He will draw a sword from Ghirahim’s body, and will then challenge Link to a battle in another location.
Before you head into the shadow portal to fight Demise, save your game at the Bird Statue. If you think it’s going to be an issue, you can head back to the present through the Gate of Time to grab some extra potions and items that you think you may need.
When you’re ready, head into the shadow portal to be sent to the sky above, where you will fight Demise.
Demon King Demise (Boss)
In the first phase of the battle against Demise, it is absolutely crucial that you stay close to him. If you distance yourself too far from him, he will charge at you with a powerful sword attack that can do quite a bit of damage if you’re hit. Deliver as many sword slashes as you can – they will be blocked, but if you can strike him where he’s not blocking, you will eventually manage to land a hit on him.
When Demise starts to prepare an attack, jump back as quickly as you can so that you don’t get it. An easy way to fight him at this point is to run up to him, strike him with a sword slash from right to left, and then follow that attack up with a sword slash from left to right. As long as you keep switching your attacks like this, you will eventually hit him. Once you’ve hit him, jump back quickly to avoid his attack. Keep doing this until the next phase of the battle begins.
In the second phase, the weather in this area will begin to change, with rain, thunder, and lightning. Raise your sword to charge a Skyward Strike. Try to avoid his attack as he will probably attack the moment you’ve charged the Skyward Strike.
Demise will start to charge up his own Skyward Strikes during this phase of the battle. If you strike each other with Skyward Strikes, they will cancel and there will be no damage taken by either of you. When you have hit him with the Skyward Strike, quickly run over and deliver some rapid attacks to Demise. You will have the chance to deliver a fatal blow to him, but don’t do it – it will just fail.
Just like before, stay as close to Demise as possible. When he gets up from the ground, be aware that he will usually perform a dash attack after getting back to his feet. Keep charging the Master Sword with Skyward Strikes and striking Demise, following it up with more sword attacks. When Demise falls to the ground again, you can perform a fatal blow if you’re quick, although you’ll probably have to do the cycle a third time. The third time will be much easier to do a fatal blow, so do it the moment he falls to the ground a third time to defeat Demise.
Congratulations on completing the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword! You can now sit back, relax, and enjoy the ending cutscenes followed by the ending credits.
