The world of One Piece is overrun by pirates; some are small-time crews, while some specific groups have a crazy pull around the world as they can control what goes on in their territories and make some very critical decisions. One pirate group that seems to have a lot going for them is the Red Hair Pirates, as they have shown time and time again that their presence in the world matters.
From stopping the Paramount War at Marineford to talking to the Five Elders, Shanks, and his pirate crew seem to have some crazy pull. What makes them even more intriguing as a group is that none of them are devil fruit users. Shanks and his crew have risen to the top without being tempted by the so-called strongest powers in the world. Pirates with powerful devil fruits rule the seas, but clearly, Shanks and his crew don’t care.
After waiting years to see them in action after Marineford, Oda has slowly been showing glimpses of their true strength, whether in the manga with Shanks’ recent “fight” against Eustass Kid or him making Admiral Ryokugyu retreat from Wano and leave Straw Hats and Wano residents alone. So I guess this is the right time to know more about all the members of the Red Hair Pirates!
Who Are The Red Hair Pirates?
The man who leads this legendary pirate crew is Shanks, also known as Red-Haired Shanks. Before starting his own pirate crew, Shanks was a member of the Roger Pirates and spent most of his childhood years with them.
The Red Hair Pirates were the first pirate crew we ever saw in the series during Romance Dawn, as we saw their history with Luffy as a child. Currently, Shanks is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, alongside his Yonko crew, solidifying his status as one of the strongest characters in One Piece.
Before forming this legendary group, Shanks was a member of the Roger Pirates but moved on to create his crew after the iconic execution of its captain, Gol D. Roger. That leads us to now, where Shanks has an immense influence in the New World and has the pull of a Celestial Dragon, or so it seems.
The Red Hair Pirates are one of the strongest pirate crews out there! Although the bounties of all the crew members haven’t been revealed, it’s got to be massive as Shanks’ crew is known to be the most well-balanced crew on the seas when it comes to bounties!
Unlike many other pirate crews, the Red Hair Pirates have no devil fruit users, meaning Haki is their main way of combat, alongside various other skills, of course. This means they are not only feared for their strength but also for skills that cover every basis in battle, from the ranged shooting of Yassop and Ben Beckmen to the full-frontal assault of Lucky Roux and Shanks himself.
The man marked by Blackbeard himself has one of the coolest Jolly Rogers in the series, and it’s just super simple. Rather than crossbones, this Jolly Roger has two swords, reflecting how he and his crew only use weapons to fight.
We don’t know much about why certain crew members joined Shanks, aside from Yassop, but more details will be revealed later! Another thing we don’t know is exactly how things work in the crew, the hierarchy, and the roles. Mainly we know that Benn Beckmen is second in command, similar to Zoro, and Shanks is their leader.
Strongest Members of Red Hair Pirates:
1. Shanks
Shanks, a former member of the Roger Pirates and the Captain of the Red Hair Pirates, is at number one. Leading a crew without devil fruit users is hard, but he trusts the Haki of each of his crew members. His crew is exceptionally powerful, meaning that Shanks must top them all.
Just like his crew, we haven’t seen much from Shanks, but recently he displayed a bit of what he’s capable of. During a faceoff with Captain Eustass Kid, he destroyed Kid, Killer, and their entire fleet in one single attack. He left them floating in the waters of Elbaf, with their ships destroyed and the fate of Kid and his crew unknown.
Shanks is also the strongest Haki user in the series, capable of advanced forms of all three Haki types. Not only can he use Future Sight, but he can prevent his opponents from using Future Sight on him. Plus, his Armament Haki is leagues above others, and his Conqueror’s Haki is insane, as he was able to subdue Admiral Ryokugyu with a single blast of Conqueror’s Haki from miles away.
With Kaido and Big Mom out of the picture, Shanks is the real deal now and easily the most powerful Emperor with the strongest crew behind him!
2. Benn Beckman
Benn Beckman, the crew’s first mate and the second in command of the Red Hair Pirates, is up next. He is a devoted right-hand man to Shanks, similar to how Zoro is to Luffy. While we haven’t seen much of him, he is undoubtedly one of the strongest fighters in the entire series, thanks to his Haki and shooting capabilities.
His IQ is incredibly high, and he has mighty strength and insane combat skills. It will be hard fighting this guy, but it gets worse. Beckman is known for his Haki, imbuing his rifle with the stuff, creating meteorically powerful bullets to shoot at his enemies. Just like Zoro does to his blade, Beckman imbues his bullets with Armament Haki, a brilliant tactic to defeat his enemies.
Beckman has displayed his strength twice now. One was when he held Kizaru, one of the Marine Admirals, at gunpoint during Marineford, and one off-screen where he shot Eustass Kid’s arm off. Yes, it wasn’t Shanks who took off his arm as previously thought; it was Beckman!
3. Lucky Roux
One cannot forget that Lucky Roux was the man who found the Gomu Gomu no Mi on that marine vessel and gave it to Shanks! Now we know that Shanks knew about the fruit, but Roux was the one to retrieve it.
Lucky Roux has been an incredibly iconic member of the Red Hair Pirates since he appeared back in the opening chapters of One Piece, mainly because of his quirky design and tendency to eat like Monkey D. Luffy! Roux is also the chef for the ship, a stark contrast to Sanji, that’s for sure. Either way, Roux is still an expert combatant in a fight, as he has a very specific fighting style.
Because of his design, Roux can use his body like a cannonball to strike his opponents. This, combined with his use of Armament Haki, makes it an incredible attack against his enemies. Sadly, we don’t know much more about Lucky Roux, but it’s only a matter of time before we see him in action.
4. Yasopp
Yassop, the man who left his dying wife and young son behind to pursue his dreams, is up next. Like Ussop, Yassop dreamed of becoming a mighty warrior in the form of a pirate. He joined Shanks back when Ussop was a young boy and left his old life behind. He wants to meet his son, though, but when it’s the right time.
Unlike his son, Yassop is a formidable and dependable fighter with an insane Observation Haki. We don’t know to what extent his Haki goes through, but we can assume he has much better control of his Observation Haki than what Ussop displayed in Dressrosa.
Yassop is the crew’s marksman, meaning he needs to precisely aim for what Shanks wants. According to Luffy, Yassop has never missed a shot! We will see that in action when we finally see this crew battle at some point in the future!
5. Limejuice
Limejuice may be another weird name for a guy, but there’s no doubt that he’s one of the powerful members of the Red Hair Pirates, as he’s also one of the senior officers.
From his limited screen time, Limejuice can be seen carrying an electrically charged staff. It also looks like, similarly to Sanji, he can use the skywalk technique of the Marines.
Compared to the others on the crew, he seems to have a straightforward fighting style, using the electric staff and aerial combat. He has something else up his sleeve, and honestly, I cannot wait to see what it is. There’s no way Shanks would have a simple fighter on his crew, Limejuice is hiding something, but what could it be?
6. Bonk Punch
Just like his companion Monster, Bonk Punch is also a senior officer and one of the musicians for the crew! Shanks must love music, as he has had three musicians on his crew over the years, but Monster and Bonk Punch are the best!
Bonk Punch has a unique power, as he can charge up his punch and unleash a massive thunderous blow to his enemies! This is why Monster is so handy, as their pairing works wonders!
He is a very unique character on the crew as he looks like a background character. As Oda usually does, though, he will serve a purpose in the future, especially with Shanks now aiming for the One Piece.
7. Monster
Every good crew has to have an animal, right? The Straw Hat Pirates have Chopper, the Heart Pirates have Bepo, and the Red Hair Pirates are no different, with Monster on their side!
Monster is a monkey, as well as Bonk Punch’s partner on the crew. Surprisingly, he is also a senior officer alongside Building Snake, Hongo, and Gab. Monster works well with the rest of the team but acts as one of their “musicians.” He might be a monkey, but this fellow understands humans and is supposedly super intelligent; no wonder Shanks wanted him on the crew!
Being a senior officer is quite a feat for Monster, as even Chopper with a Zoan devil fruit isn’t that far up on in the Straw Hats. Monster aids in combat by holding down enemies for Bonk Punch to get in a super hard-hitting move!
8. Building Snake
Building Snake is a weird name for a One Piece character, and that’s saying something! Nevertheless, Building Snake is another senior officer and the ship’s “navigator.” He’s different from Nami, that’s for sure! Being a senior officer means he must know how to fight, and he certainly does.
He wields two swords to perform the “Juggling Two Sword Style,” unlike someone like Zoro with his Three Sword Style. Building Snake is also known for his incredibly flexible body, which he uses to mess with his enemies in combat. Performing random acrobatic techniques and changing the way his body moves to confuse opponents.
9. Hongo
Every crew needs its own doctor, and Hongo is the Red Hair Pirates’ doctor and expert on all medicines. He is also a senior member of the crew, ranking relatively high.
Hongo is a man with deep knowledge of weapons as well as medicines. He can dismantle any weapon in a matter of seconds. He uses a polearm as a weapon, so ranged fights aren’t safe against this beast!
A trend you will see here is that most Red Hair Pirates members have not shown off their Haki yet, so we have no idea what else Hongo can do.
10. Gab
Known more commonly as “Howling Gab,” Gab is one of the senior officers of the Red Hair Pirates. Gab has complete control of all lower-ranking members, so he has a lot of pull on the ship.
From his exterior, he seems pretty intimidating, but from what Oda has told us, he is quite a sweet and shy kind of guy. Gab is also afraid of bugs and ghosts! Yeah, he’s a softy on the inside!
Gab has not displayed any Haki either but does have his insane roaring technique, allowing him to send out air blades from his mouth. Gab can also use paralysis, according to Oda, but this has yet to be seen. Like the rest of this crew, he is a force to be reckoned with, even without a devil fruit!
11. Rockstar
Rockstar is the newest member of the Red Hair Pirates and had an impressive bounty of 94,000,000 even before he joined the crew as a rookie!
Rockstar was the man Shanks sent to see Whitebeard in his stead, but this angered Whitebeard so much that Shanks had to show up.
While not a majorly important part of the crew, Rockstar is an important fighter on the ship. Before the time skip, he was a rookie but moved up to an unknown status on the ship. Remember, since the time skip, we haven’t seen much from Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates.
He is loyal to Shanks and his crew while believing in strict rules. While he isn’t a majorly important member of the crew, his fighting ability most certainly is. Rockstar is a swordsman with the “Splitting Sword” technique. He uses this to split his enemies into two pieces, quite a scary technique!
12. Uta (Former)
The adopted daughter of Shanks himself, Uta, is up first, but sadly she is no longer a part of the crew, which is why she’s at the bottom of the list.
History repeated itself, as just like Shanks, Uta was found inside a treasure chest after a significant incident. Therefore, Uta was raised by Shanks on his ship, growing up alongside Luffy in Foosha Village when the Red Hair Pirates docked.
The events of One Piece Film: Red depict her life story as tragic. She went from a crew member to an abandoned and hate-filled person to reconciling with her adoptive father and his crew.
In the movie, she is shown to have eaten the Uta Uta no Mi, a devil fruit that gives her singing powers. The devil fruit seemed apt for someone of her skills!
